Palestine narrows differences with Jordan
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 1/9/1998

Well-informed Jordanian sources disclosed that the secret visit of the secretary-general of the Executive Office of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Mahmoud Abbass Abu Mazen, last Friday to Amman aimed at overcoming the misunderstanding between Jordan and Palestine over maps for the Israeli West Bank redeployment, which had been prepared by the Israeli Infrastructure Minister Ariel Sharon.

Sources stated that Abu Mazen met with Jordanian Crown Prince Hassan Bin Talal during which they discussed the Jordanian position towards Sharon's maps, especially those of the border strip along the western side of the Jordan Valley.

The Israeli side had suggested that the areas should be completely under the Israeli security control even after the final phase negotiations on the Palestinian track.

Sources stated that Abu Mazen's meetings with Prince Hassan, which were carried out in complete secrecy, succeeded in resolving the misunderstanding between Jordan and Palestine and that the two sides agreed on rejecting Sharon's maps.
