Two Moroccan parties agree to form unified parliamentary coalition
Morocco, Politics, 1/9/1998
The party of Socialism and Advancement and the Socialist Democratic party called for solidarity between Morocco's left-wing powers in order to open new horizons for Morocco to overcome what their joint statement described as its "crisis."
The two parties said their views are similar regarding the election, the current phase and the suggested changes. The joint statement said that they have agreed to form a parliamentary coalition in both chambers of the Moroccan parliament which will be called "The Democratic Advancement and Renovation Team." The statement also said that this team aims to be the basis for a larger union for left-wing parties in Morocco.
Moroccan parliamentary laws stipulate that a parliamentary coalition should consist of at least 12 members.
