Amr Moussa sees Turkish maneuvers as unwise
Egypt-Regional, International, 1/7/1998

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa declared that it's not the suitable time for the Israel-Turkey nilitary maneuvers to occur, adding that the maneuvers are considered a negative step within the current regional developments especially the peace process and the obstinacy in Israeli policy.

Then he emphasized that Egypt sees no justification for these maneuvers.

Concerning the Libyan situation with regard to the Lockerbie incident and UN sanctions, Moussa said that Libya has shown flexibility in resolving this issue. Moussa stated that it's time now to make progress on the sanctions against Libya, and he expressed Egypt's hope that all the Libyan suspects could be tried according to Scottish law but in a third European capital, as Libya has suggested.

Concerning the developments surrounding Israeli Foreign Minister Levy's resignation, Moussa said that this crisis is an internal Israeli affair. He added that we will see the Israeli government's position and what it has to offer during the upcoming meetings between US President Bill Clinton and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He added that this meeting concerns the American role, and the Israel position toward the peace process and its future, pointing out that the Israeli position prior to the current crisis was not favorable to peace at all.
