Al-Rawdan withdraws resignation
Kuwait, Politics, 1/7/1998

Kuwait's Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah said that Finance Minister Nasser al-Rawdan has withdrawn his resignation at the request of the ruler of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah and crown prince Shaiekh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah.

Al-Rawdan, who submitted his resignation on November 15, 1997, assumed his office following liberation of Kuwait from the Iraqi occupation in 1991.

However local press reported that a Kuwaiti parliamentary group was preparing to investigate him over the loss of US $933 million of governmental investments in the country's social insurance institutions.

Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad, on last week denied that any resignation was submitted by any Kuwaiti Cabinet minister in solidarity with Al-Rawdan. Al-Rawdan said that he was considering tendering his resignation before, but preferred to wait until Prime Minister Saad al-Abdallah al-Sabah returned from abroad.
