Turkish-Israeli-US maneuvers start today
Regional, Politics, 1/7/1998
Israeli-Turkish-US military exercises start today in the Mediterranean waters with the participation of military observers from Jordan.
On Tuesday Israel expressed satisfaction with Jordan's participation, while the Israeli Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai thanked the US for its support in the Israeli - Turkish cooperation, SANA said.
Arab media on Tuesday said these maneuvers triggered Arab and Muslim countries' anger because they endanger the safety of the region's countries, SANA added.
Meantime, Russia stressed that these maneuvers would aggravate the atmosphere of non-confidence and instability in the Middle East, and will increase difficulties for the peace process in the region. A spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a press conference quoted by SANA on Tuesday that his country believes it is very important to create a stable Middle East free of military alliances.
He stressed the need to resume peace talks in the region on the grounds of the Madrid terms of reference and to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the region.
