Former leading Algerian politician criticizes political era preceding independence
Algeria, History, 1/6/1998
Bin Youssef Bin Ghada, the former Algerian Premier who was in office during the era preceding the country's independence broke his silence and criticized the political leaders that have ruled Algeria since Algerian independence in 1962.
Bin Ghada, who headed the Algerian negotiating team for independence with French General Charles DeGaulle in the French Suburb of Evian said in a book under entitled "Algeria During Independence" that the Islamic current which has been absent from the political arena for 30 years started to take the lead from the generation that fought for independence . This Islamic current revived the principles of November 1954 (the date of the beginning of the Liberation Revolution) that called for upholding Islamic values which gave the Algerian people the opportunity to connect with its past and restore its dignity.
Bin Ghada abandoned politics during the era of the former Algerian President Hawary Bu Madian and devoted his life to his pharmacy in the city of Balida. He believed that the national leadership did not possess future national plans as its only concern was to attain independence from France.
He believed that the 1962 crisis among the political leaders of the Liberation Front; Karim Bal Kasem, Hussein Ain Ahmed and the chief of staff of the people's army which had been led by Bu Madian, ended the phase of national struggle.
