Algerian condition and economy improving
Algeria, Economics, 1/5/1998

The Algerian Minister of Trade Bakhty Balayeb stated that the economic condition of the country is satisfactory despite the crisis that Algeria is passing through, and he expressed confidence that terrorism will be dealt with and will be over in due course.

He added that Algeria has experienced and is still experiencing terrorism, but the violence has decreased to a great extent due to government efforts. He said that Algeria is a vast country with a very difficult topography which makes it difficult to track and fight terrorists, however anyone visiting Algeria will see a great improvement in security conditions since the beginning of the 1990's.

Balayeb stated that the current budget has no deficit. He added that there is a surplus of foreign currency, which confirms that the country has overcome its financial crisis.
