Kuwait and Yemen expected to reopen embassies
Kuwait-Yemen, Politics, 12/31/1997
The Yemeni government expects to reopen its embassy in Kuwait in 1998. The government allocated the necessary funds in its 1998 budget for opening two Yemeni embassies in Kuwait and Malaysia.
Yemeni-Kuwaiti relations deteriorated greatly after the Gulf War as Kuwait accused Sanaa of supporting Iraq and Saddam Hussein. Kuwait has kept a diplomatic representative in Yemen at the level of Charge D'Affairs, while the Yemeni Ambassador to Kuwait left Kuwait after the Gulf War. A delegation of Kuwaiti intelligentsia and former members of the Kuwaiti parliament visited Yemen during the current month.
The two countries had agreed on giving their relations a push in order to support Arab positions, especially with regard to the stalled Arab-Israeli peace process.
