Committee discusses authority to monitor weapons treaty signatories
Regional, Military, 12/31/1997
An expert committee, which is an offshoot of the technical committee concerned with drafting a treaty to rid the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction, yesterday discussed tentative articles of association of a proposed inspection authority to be responsible for dismantling such weapons from the region during their meeting at the Arab League yesterday.
A report of the current discussions will be submitted to the technical committee during its meetings in March.
The experts committee is responsible for creating a mechanism to ensure that all signatories in the region abide by the provisions of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, Al-Anbaa daily said.
