Moslems of the world, be united
Regional-Palestine, Religion, 12/30/1997

The Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem issued a statement Tuesday to all Moslems and Arabs reminding them of their responsibilities towards the protection of the Aqsa Mosque and the city of Jerusalem from Israeli occupation and ultra right wing threats.

Sheikh Hassan Tahboub, Palestinian minister of Islamic waqf and religious affairs, urged in a statement all Moslems in the world to unite and protect the Al Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest Islamic shrine after Mecca and Medina.

Tahboub confirmed that President Arafat had received from Israel's chief rabbi a letter denouncing the plot to throw a severed pig's head into Al Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan but expressed hopes that a similar letter be sent by the chief rabbi to Israeli officials warning them of the serious consequences of such acts.
