Labor Party official warns of great danger
Israel, Politics, 12/26/1997
A leading member of the Israeli opposition Labor party, Yossi Beilin, stated that the peace process in the Middle East reached its lowest level since the Madrid conference in 1991.
He added that he is afraid the situation might explode at any moment if Israel and the Palestinians refuse to proceed with the last phase of negotiations, which should be concluded by May 1999.
He stated that he is worried because of the lack of the Israel-Palestinian meetings, and that stoppage of negotiations over the hot issues of security, borders, refugees, and settlements will lead to grave results.
He warned that Israel and Palestine might take unilateral decisions which will be very dangerous. Beilin, a Knesset member for the Labor Party, added that he discussed the last phase of negotiations with the Jordanian Premier, the Jordanian Deputy Premier and the Foreign Minister, Fayez Al Tarawna.
