Moroccan parties call for democracy
Morocco, Politics, 12/26/1997
The secretary general of the Moroccan Socialist and Advancement Party, Ismail Al Alawy, said that Morocco needs a democratic exchange of power, in reference to the possibility of the formation of a coalition government by the opposition parties.
He questioned whether the political system will focus on creating crises and tensions or on the smooth running of affairs in dealing with political changes.
He added that amid the current situation in Morocco, there is no room for evading responsibility because protecting and boosting democracy will be achieved only if each party shoulders its responsibility in dealing with Moroccan affairs.
He expressed his hope that there will be a flexible and smooth way to handle current problems. He also called for positive reception of the expected decree which will entrust the opposition parties with forming the government.
Meanwhile, trade union leader Fobier Al Amawy, who is also the writer of the Democratic Labor Confederation, called on employers to abide by agreements reached by the trade union and the Moroccan authorities.
In a message to the Moroccan Premier Abdel Latif Al Filali, Al Amawy said that no attempt is being made to solve the social problems of the education sector.
