Turkey allows Jordanian trucks in
Jordan-Turkey, Economics, 12/25/1997
Turkish authorities allowed 90 oil-filled Jordanian tanker trucks to cross Turkey's border with Syria after those authorities prohibited them from passing through, saying that they were carrying Iraqi oil.
A Jordanian oil transportation company stated that it had signed a contract with Syrian Oil Company concerning transportation of Russian oil from the Syrian port of Tartus to Turkey. A company manager reported that his company has signed a contract to transport Russian oil into Turkey via more than 150 trucks.
But the Turkish government prohibited those oil-filled trucks from entering its borders; the act caused heavy financial losses, Nayil Diyabat said.
A trucks driver told reporters that 90 tankers were allowed to enter Turkey, while the others were still awaiting permission to pass.
