Lebanese television workers on strike for three days, starting today
Lebanon, Business, 12/24/1997
The General Assembly of the Syndicate of Workers in Tele-Liban (SWLTV) decided to go on strike for three days starting today.
The General Assembly stated that this strike is considered a preliminary warning measure of protest against what the group termed as "neglect" from the government toward the workers.
The General Assembly authorized the SWLTV council to deal with Tele-Liban by taking all necessary measures and utilizing all means, including strikes and demonstrations, to solve this problem.
The Tele-Liban issue is currently on the agenda of the Lebanese cabinet due to the increasing budget. The television administration asked for a $10 million loan in order to cover its debts and to pay the salaries of the workers.
The SWLTV general assembly had submitted an official protest to the Chairman of the Syndicate, Elias Abu Rizk.
