Joint Gulf-Iranian efforts to promote bilateral relations
Iran-Gulf, Politics, 12/24/1997
Iran on Tuesday welcomed the call advocated by leaders of the GCC states during their recent summit in Kuwait for building trust with Tehran, adding that such a process is the only guarantee to ensure stability in the region.
Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Mahmud Muhammadi in Tehran yesterday stressed that Iran's policies aim to strengthen and consolidate relations with the Gulf Arab states, adding that the continuation of visits and cooperation talks between states of the region would eventually foster relations and establish mutual trust, noting "cooperation among regional countries as the only way to safeguard security and stability in this strategic region."
He also stressed the possibility of settling disputes through bilateral dialogue, talks and understanding. Within the same context, diplomatic sources in Abu Dhabi welcomed the visit planned by the Iranian foreign minister to the United Arab Emirates, adding the visit which will be held in the second day of the month of Ramadan would help in arranging for the visit of the Iranian President Mohammad Khatami to the UAE to meet with its President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan.
