China stresses land for peace formula
Regional, International, 12/24/1997

During his meeting with Israeli Premier Netanyahu, Chinese Foreign Minister Qian Qichen stressed that the Middle East peace process will proceed only through commitment to international legitimacy resolutions and adherence to the land for peace principle.

The Chinese News agency Xinhua quoted Qichen as saying there will be no security in the region if a comprehensive and just peace is not achieved, expressing hope that the peace process would be resumed on all tracks.

Meanwhile, Israeli Labor Party Knesset member Yusi Bilein called upon Netanyahu to respect his signature on the Hebron agreement which he has yet to implement. In an interview with the Israeli radio, Bilein was quoted as saying: "What was agreed upon with the Palestinians can not be ignored by anybody, because the final statement will be done and the Palestinian state will be established."
