Foreign Minister: No military pact with Israel
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 12/23/1997
Jordanian Foreign Minister Fayez al-Taraunah said that the inflexibility of Israeli policy has resulted in dissatisfaction in the Islamic world, since there has not been any positive developments in the peace process on the Israeli side.
Concerning the Islamic Summit in Tehran early this month, al-Taraunah told Egypt's al-Ahram newspaper that it discussed several important issues concerning human rights, international terrorism and development issues, he said.
The Jordanian foreign minister said that the Islamic Summit made qualified achievements on civilization, cultural, economic and humanitarian issues. "It was the first summit in which we addressed a unique message to the world related to the real face of Islam," he said.
Al-Taraunah denied the existence of a military pact between Jordan and Israel, pointing out that there has been a security coordination similar to that between other countries.
