Syria, Economics, 12/22/1997
Diplomatic sources told ArabicNews.com that Germany and Syria failed to solve the problem of delayed debts worth $9.9 million during a visit paid by a high ranked German delegation from the Ministry of Finance at the end of last month.
Damascus demanded compensation worth $759 million due for damages caused by East Germany's breach of contracts, the sources said.
The sources said the two groups agreed to continue discussions and that Syria will have to provide evidence and documents supporting its claim
The Syrian sources refused to charactarize the negotiations as a failure. The German delegation began its negotiations with Syria on November 25.
