Netanyahu's statements on West Bank denounced
Israel, International, 12/22/1997

Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Esmat Abdel Meguid on Sunday denounced statements made by Israeli Premier Netanyahu that the West Bank is an integral part of Israel, describing them as "a new circle of the Israeli intransigence which reveals the Likud government's ignorance of the peace process."

In press statements he made following his meeting with Romania's deputy foreign minister, currently visiting Egypt, Abdel Meguid urged the international community to take serious steps to confront Israeli procedures and policies and safeguard the peace process.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Defense Minister Mohsen Dalloul has accused Netanyahu of burying the peace process through his recent statements on the West Bank. In a press statement he made on Sunday Dalloul said: "Israel does not want peace," stating that since he ascended to power Netanyahu has paid no attention to the peace process.
