Iraqis inaugurate antibiotic factory

Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Taha Jazrawy has opened a factory built to produce antibiotics. The building was begun in August 1990.
The UN delay in ratifying Iraqi contracts to purchase equipment required for the factory resulted in the delay in completing the factory, a source close to the project stated.
As the sanctions came into effect the foreign contractor left the project, and an Iraqi company completed it, the same source added.
UN weapons inspectors in charge of dismantling of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction visited the site nine times to make sure that it is not used in producing prohibited weapons, the source stated.
