Death sentence for 19, imprisonment for 14

The Algerian Criminal Court sentenced 19 Algerians to execution for carrying out terrorist acts in Algeria. It also sentenced 14 Algerians to 5-20 years in jail, while it acquitted 6.

The Algerians were charged with organizing terrorist groups in the areas of Aqaba and Bab Al Lewa'a in the Algerian capital Algiers in addition to masterminding many terrorist activities against the Algerian civilians, policemen and army officers.

Most ofhe accused denied the charges, while some of them confessed to having assisted the group's members and leaders for fear of retaliation.

Meanwhile, 5 workers were killed and 3 were injured as a result of an explosion in the village of Baraky southeast of the capital Algiers. Security sources said that a bomb exploded while the workers were crossing the road in that village.

The sources also stated that the injured workers were hospitalized and that their condition was critical. The Algerian authorities declined to give any information on the accident.
