$113 million loan for dam construction in Jordan

A US $113 million loan from the Arab Fund for Economic Development, based in Kuwait, has been endorsed to help Jordan finance development projects.
A delegation from the Arab Fund for Economic Development has visited Jordan to assess the facilities for a dam that will be constructed in Jordan Valley at Waleh, Tanour and Mujib and a pipeline to draw water from Mujib to the eastern shore of the Dead Sea, sources from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation said.
The delegates assessed feasibility studies and a report recommending the implementation of the project to the fund's board. The two sides initialed a tentative agreement during the delegation's visit to Jordan,the sources reported.
The dam is designed to gather rainwater that would be used for industrial and agricultural purposes in the southern area of the Jordan Valley, the sources added.
It is expected that the Mujib dam will cost US $79 million and will be 51.5 m high. It will store up to 35 million cubic meters of water. The dam at Waleh will be 45 m high and will store 9.3 million cubic meters of rainwater.The dam constructed at Tanour will be 65 m high and will keep up to 8.9 million cm water.
The designs and the tender documents have been finalized, the same sources stated.
