Algerian criticism for Amnesty International report
Algeria, Politics, 12/18/1997
A recent Amnesty International report was received with severe criticism in Algeria. The director of the Algerian Human Rights Observing Committee, Kamal Razak Bara, strongly criticized this report and stated that this non-governmental organization exceeded its role when it tried to impose on international public opinion its view that there is no government in Algeria and that the Algerian people are ruled by a military dictatorship and armed opposition groups.
He stated that Amnesty wants to start a civil war in Algeria. He clarified that the organization is the mouthpiece of western regimes that want to destabilize Algeria through hosting terrorist groups and offering aid to them to the extent that those groups had taken the capitals of those western countries as their bases in which they mastermind their violent attacks.
Bara pointed out that Amnesty International did not dare to describe those criminal groups as "terrorist." He also said that the representatives of the organization did not visit Algeria and that its report included certain things which are not found in Algeria.
