Kuwaiti delegation threatens to withdraw from Arab Parliamentary Conference
Regional-Libya, Politics, 12/17/1997

The Kuwaiti delegation threatened to withdraw form the Arab Parliamentary Conference (APC) currently being held in Libya if the issue of the international blockade on Iraq is put on the agenda of the conference.

Members of the Kuwaiti delegation stated that the emergency Arab Parliamentary Conference was organized to discuss the blockade imposed on Libya and the proposal of the Arab Union which had been submitted by the Libyan Leader Moammar Gaddafi. The Kuwaiti delegation refused any discussions of the blockade imposed on Iraq.

The meetings of the APC started in Libya yesterday with the participation of 15 countries to discuss means of solidarity with Libya and to call for lifting this blockade, which harms the Libyan people. The secretary general of the Arab League is participating in that conference.

The speaker of the Egyptian People's Assembly (the parliament) Dr. Fathi Serour affirmed Egyptian support for Libya in its stance in the face of the challenges posed by the blockade.

The secretary general of the Arab League, Dr. Esmat Abdel Meguid, will discuss with Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi the latest developments in the Lockerbie crisis between Libya on the one hand and the USA and the UK on the other.
