Jordan parliament urges Israel to abide by peace
Jordan, Politics, 12/16/1997
Jordan's parliament (Ummah council) has asserted that the Israeli government constitutes an obstacle against peace in its refusal to abide by international obligations and its persistence in continuing its settlement policy in the occupied Arab and Palestinian lands.
In a reply to the speech addressed by King Hussein to the new parliament, the council said the Israeli government did not only sabotage the peace process but also obstructed all Arab and international efforts aimed at establishing a just and comprehensive peace and honoring people's rights to self-determination.
The council called for establishing just and comprehensive peace on the Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese tracks, voicing full support for thePalestinian people in order to achieve their legitimate rights and establish their own independent state on their native soil of Palestine with Jerusalem as a capital.
It also called for alleviating the suffering of the Iraqi people and lifting the sanctions imposed on Iraq, Libya, and Sudan.
