Assad: conference more successful than any previous OIC summit
Syria, Politics, 12/13/1997

Syrian President Hafez al-Assad arrived in Damascus Friday after taking part in the 8th Organization for the Islamic Conference's Islamic Summit in Tehran, Iran over the previous three days.

In a pre-departure statement from Tehran airport, Assad told reporters that the conference was successful and the conference agenda was accomplished. All those concerned and all those taking part in the conference should implement the resolutions adopted by the conference, he said.

Assad said that a center had been established in Tehran for the implementation of the follow-up work, and that what really counts is that there should be cooperation among all those present at the conference. The zeal for implementing the resolutions must remain, he said.

On his assessment of conference results, Assad said the conference was more successful than any previous Islamic Summit, and expressed his hope that those who participated in the conference would share his view.
