Security preparations for New Year's Eve, Ramadan
Egypt, Economics, 12/13/1997
Intensive security measures will be implemented over the next few weeks leading up to News Year's Eve celebrations and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, as the yearly Muslim's fasting month approaches. A security source said that security measures would continue in tourist and archaeological sites, even after the celebrations.
The security scheme is also meant to maintain discipline on Egyptian city streets during Ramadan.
"Egypt pins great hopes on the two coming events to salvage the tourism industry from its current slump," said the source, citing the preference of many Arab and foreign tourists to attend the new year celebrations and Ramadan religious festivities in Egypt, Al-Ahrar daily said today.
