The World Bank supports the Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations

The Director of the World Bank Program for the support of Palestinian Non-governmental Organizations, Mohamed Shadid, confirmed that the World Bank (WB) signed an agreement with the Cooperation Establishment through which the latter will run this project whose budget is $14.5 million.

This amount will be received through the upcoming three years and may be renewed for another three years. The WB will contribute $10 million, in addition to $2.5 million from Saudi Arabia and $2 million from Italy.

Shadid also confirmed that the small grants which will be offered to the project are divided into two types: those dedicated to supporting the non-governmental organizations which suffer from a financial crisis, and dedicated to supporting the services and programs of those organizations which are offered to the Palestinian people.

As for the large grants, they will be dedicated to those organizations that work in associations with national partners as they cover greater areas of population.

Shadid stated that this project comes at a time of deterioration in the Palestinian economic situation. The WB had prepared this project in order to assist the non-governmental organizations in collaboration with those organizations and Palestine.

This project aims to dedicate more money to the services offered to the impoverished and the destitute members of the Palestinian people through the non-governmental organizations which will be used a mechanism to pass this assistance to those who need it. The project also aims to support the phase of rebuilding and to support the non-governmental organizations and to strengthen its cooperation with the Palestinians.
