The Moroccan Party of Independence to hold exceptional conference sunday
Morocco, Politics, 12/12/1997

The Moroccan Party of Independence will hold an exceptional conference in Rabat next Sunday.

This conference comes at a time when the party is studying the developments that came to existence after the election and the situation of the party amid the discussions of forming a new government coalition.

The Party of Independence's popularity decreased noticeably during the legislative election in which the party received only 32 seats compared to 57 seats won by its ally within the Socialist Union Coalition. The party of Independence had received only 21 seats in the Council of Advisors.

Sources have confirmed that for the party of Independence to have chosen this time to hold its exceptional conference, it indicates an attempt to contain the differences within the party that erupted after the results of the November 14 election. Those results led to feelings of anger for some party members.

This anger was clear in the message sent by the assistant secretary general of the party, Mohamed Al Devery. In the message, Al Dewery had accused the secretary-general Mohamed Buseta and some party leaders of "violating the party's regulations."

Al Dewery had withdrawn his message and offered his regrets to "the three brothers", Mohamed Buseta, Abbas Al Fass and Mohamed Al Wafa.
