Diplomatic Sources in Damascus confirmed that contacts are underway between Damascus and Washington to prepare for the visit of the US undersecretary of state for the Middle East Affairs Martin Indyk which will include Damascus and Tel Aviv in addition to a number of other capitals in the region starting November 18.
The tour aims to accelerate the peace process and to push it ahead. It will concentrate on the Israeli - Syrian peace track and to get some information of the position of the two sides. During this visit, Indyk will hold discussions with the leaders of the countries in the Middle East region in order to remove obstacles that hinder the peace process.
This visit comes within the contacts between Damascus and Washington in their attempt to find a formula for resuming the negotiations on the Syrian track which has stopped for a long time. This visit is considered the first one by Indyk since his appointment in his current position.
