Damascus hosts FAO workshop on combating screw worms

Delegations representing Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan and Yemen recently concluded a five-day workshop on screw worm epidemiology and control.
Recommendations were made for emergency measures to tackle the problem using conventional techniques, including insecticide applications, monitoring surveillance and quarantine. These will be submitted to potential funding and implementing agencies.
The participants have shown interest and concerns about the screw worm infestation. They have developed very professional and close cooperation to develop a final proposition for the control of this terrible pest.
