Egyptian-Sudanese relations improving rapidly
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 12/11/1997
While Egyptian - Sudanese relations are witnessing noticeable improvement, Sudanese President Omar Bashir stated that he intends to visit Egypt soon and described the two countries' relations as positive and improving rapidly. This statement came while the Sudanese president was in Tehran to participate in the Islamic Summit.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa who heads the Egyptian delegation to the Islamic Summit had met in Tehran with the Sudanese president and foreign minister.
A member of the Sudanese National Council, Dr. Essam Ahmed Al Bashir, had lauded the statement of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in which Mubarak had voiced Egypt's refusal to impose any sanctions on Sudan and his rejection of anything that might jeopardize the unity of Sudan.
During his statements on the Luxor terrorist attack, the Egyptian President had ruled out the possibility that Sudan might have been involved in this attack, he also did not accuse Sudan of terrorism, which was a key charge the US used to justify sanctions imposed against Sudan last month.
