Abdel Meguid calls for lifting senctions on Libya, Iraq and Sudan

Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Esmat Abdel Meguid, who is currently participating in the Islamic Summit in Tehran, stated that he will discuss the Iranian occupation of three Emirate islands.

Meguid emphasized that the Arab League's attitude is consistent concerning this matter as he explained the Emirates' point of view for finding a fair solution for this issue that is before the International Court of Justice. Iran has sent strong signals that it is ready to move to resolve the outsanding issues with the UAE. Iran's president Mohammad Khatami said that "There stands no major insoluble problem in relations between iran and the UAE."

Meguid urged lifting of sanctions imposed on Iraq, Libya and Sudan, indicating that the Arab League works to end the penalties which harm the people of those countries.

He also said that he will soon visit Iraq, confirming that Iraq should adhere to the UN resolutions.
