Moroccan monarch not attending Islamic Summit
Morocco, Politics, 12/10/1997
Official sources in Rabat confirmed that the reasons that kept the Moroccan monarch away from the Islamic summit in Tehran have nothing to do with international politics.
King Hassan II did not attend the summit due to his busy schedule which is full of internal affairs that include the legislative election and other internal political activities.
Prime Minister Abdel Latif Al Filaly who is attending the Summit delivered a message from the Moroccan monarch to the Iran's President Khatemy in which Morocco confirmed its support of the Islamic stances in the summit.
The Moroccan Monarch's absence from the Summit was not predicted by the Iranians who confirmed the King's presence, as King Hassan II chaired the last meetings of the Summit 3 years ago.
Moroccan - Iranian relations have shown great progress recently. Iran had also expected the participation of King Hassan II in order to exert efforts in mediating differences between the United Arab Emirates and Iran over the three UAE isles that Iran occupies.
