Electrical connection between Gulf Cooperation Council Countries costs $1.3 billion
Gulf Region, Economics, 12/10/1997

The Ministers of Electricity and Water in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries held an emergency meeting in Riyadh in which they discussed the suggestions submitted by the Founding Committee of the project on the electrical connection project among the GCC countries.

The Ministers ratified some of the suggestions and discussed the report submitted by the Gulf Investment Establishment submitted last October on means of financing the project. The Ministers also discussed the report on the share of each of the GCC countries, the alternatives to the project, and the results of the visits of the task team of the electrical connection project which consists of the Ministers of Finance in GCC countries.

The costs of the project is estimated at $1.3 billion and each country's share will depend on the benefit it is going to get from the project. Sources said that 4 GCC countries, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, possess the technical abilities to implement the project.
