Archeological discovery in Sakkara
Egypt, History, 12/9/1997

The Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny and the director of the Egyptian Archeological Higher Council (EAHC) stated that an Egyptian - French Archeological team discovered three tombs in the Sakkara area that date back to 4,300 years ago. The most important one is the tomb of Lady Maya, the nursemaid of Tutankhamen.

The secretary general of the EAHC Gaballa Aly Gaballa stated that the work that led to discovering those tombs started one year ago. He also confirmed that this is the most important discovery of the Egyptian-French team this year.

The director of the Giza Archeological Sites confirmed that the French team, headed by Alan Zeile, is one of the most important and active teams working in Egypt as it has discovered ten tombs till now. It also has information, to be announced next fall, that will help in discovering an additional ten tombs. He added that after the sand is removed from the tomb of Lady Maya, this will lead to the other tombs in the area.
