Identity Committee registers more than 300 Saharans in two days

Sources in the Menosoro Delegation in the Western Sahara said that the number of those who were registered in the polling lists reached 309 persons of Saharan origin, 97 of which belong to the tribes of Al Rukaibat. The number of those in the Tendouf camps is not known yet.

The Identity Committee will accelerate the procedures of the referendum. There have been many differences over those who are eligible to participate in the referendum which crippled the work of the Identity Committee for more than two years.

After Morocco and the Polisario reached the Houston Agreement with the assistance of the US mediator James Baker and in the attendance of representatives from Algeria and Mauritania, the door was open for the peaceful settlement of the problem. This agreement tackled all the issues that have to do with the referendum on top of which is the resumption of the works of the Identity Committee and releasing the prisoners of war and the detainees on both sides.
