Successful tentative operation of Egyptian nuclear reactor

The Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy Maher Abaza declared the success of the first tentative operation of the second Egyptian reactor which was set up for research purposes with a capacity of 22 megawatts.
The minister said that the reactor will help in producing radioactive material which will be used for medical, agricultural and industrial purposes. They will also be used in engineering, physics and other peaceful purposes. Those radioactive material will be used in producing the cobalt which is needed for medical, agricultural, and industrial applications.
The minister confirmed that one of the advantages of the reactor which was set up in cooperation with Argentina is creating experienced manpower in all aspects of reactor operations.
He added that Egyptian participation was great in this project as the entire steel reactor container was manufactured by one of the national companies in Egypt in a special workshop according to international specifications.
Abaza also confirmed that the most advanced inspection specifications were applied and the nuclear quality assurance was followed in all the steps of manufacturing. The International Atomic Organization commended the works of the Egyptian company.
