Increase in quantity, cost of fuel transferred from Iraq to Jordan
Jordan-Iraq, Business, 12/6/1997
The Jordanian government decided to raise the transfer costs for raw fuel transferred from Iraq -- with an increase of 0.5 dinars (0.71 dollars) for each ton -- thus the costs became 10 dinars ($14.1 US) instead of 9.5 dinars.
Mohammed Salah Al-Hurani, the Jordanian minister of energy and mineral resources, confirmed that such a procedure is due to an increase in fuel quantities transferred from Iraq to Jordan to meet requests for petroleum derivatives during winter.
75,000 barrels are transferred daily between the country by Iraqi and Jordanian trucks.
Jordan pays some of its fuel costs to Iraq in food, medical, and cleaning products with a value of 255 million dollars annually according to the last protocol signed between Jordan and Iraq.
