Algeria, Military, 12/6/1997
Algerian Armed forces that managed to enter the mountain village of Al Marakishia, upon searching the caves used by armed Islamic militants found important documents and leaflets that bear the seal of the Armed Islamic Group.
A military source outlined the details of the content of those documents. They contained the group's principle of organization. The organization's method is based on enlisting members for the purpose of assassinating specific individuals, ambushing security forces, while other members are for securing supplies, and others for inteligence.
Based on the documents, the most dangerous faction of the organization is Al Diar, which is given the assignment of attacking villages and killing their residents. This faction is headed by Hussein Bezio, nicknamed Mosab, he is said to be one of the most dangerous members.
The Algerian forces had promised 3 million dinars to anyone who could give information on or kill him. Al Diar faction comprises between 70 to 100 armed members and is considered one the strongest factions.
Algerian military forces confirmed that the villages of Al Marakishia and Al Marg were planted with mines and that the Algerian army will face more difficulties in these areas due to their mountainous nature. The army is expected to use mine sweepers after the use of helicopters and tanks.
