King Hussein refutes Israeli allegations
Jordan, Politics, 12/6/1997

King Hussein of Jordan has stressed that Israel's Premier Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to destroy the Oslo accord and to divert the peace process from its right track.

In a message to his Premier Abdul Salam al Majali, the Jordanian king criticized the policy pursued by Netanyahu concerning the limited Israeli redeployment in the West Bank and his evasion of implementing signed agreements.

He also criticized Israel's escalated settlement policy, describing it as a thing which violates Wadi Araba treaty between Jordan and Israel, which prohibits any population shift that affects the interests of the other side, noting that such settlement policy is made at the expense of the Palestinian people through confiscating their lands as well as stationing Israeli troops on the frontiers of Jordan river.

King Hussein refuted Israeli officials' statements that Jordan is against the establishment of a Palestinian state, describing such statements as groundless. He voiced Jordan's support for the establishment of the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as a capital, to restore their full rights especially the right to self-determination.

He also reviewed the Israeli proposals on redeployment as violations of the Oslo and Hebron accords. He noted seven issues postponed until the final stage for negotiations with Israel: Jerusalem, the refugees, borders, settlements, waters, security and sovereignty.
