Inter-Arab agricultural exports are booming
Lebanon, Agriculture, 12/5/1997
Lebanon signed several agreements and contracts providing for the exchange of agricultural produce with Arab states, according to Lebanese Agriculture Minister Shawki Fakhouri.
The minister indicated that by the end of November exports reached 24,818 tons of apples; 23,898 tons of grapes, 77,696 tons of potatoes, 1,735 tons of pears and 26,660 tons of different types of vegetables and more than 15,000 tons of other agricultural products.
Fakhouri noted that the figures are encouraging for further promotion of inter-Arab agricultural cooperation. He added a contract is underway with Libya providing for an agreement to ensure the export of large quantities of fruit -- especially grapes and apples -- before the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
