Moussa: all is is well with Qatar. Regional comments
Egypt-Qatar, Politics, 12/5/1997

Amr Moussa, Egypt's foreign minister, said, "What happened was an exception and the relations between Egypt and Qatar were and will always remain fine."

The meeting sponsored by King Fahd of Saudi Arabia between Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani resolved what had been characterized as a "war of words" between the two countries in the wake of comments made by a Qatari official who implicated Egypt in a failed 1994 coup attempt in Qatar. Moussa emphasized that the relations between the two countries should not be affected by any negative actions.

Concerning the fears that prevail among Egyptians who work in some Arab countries, Moussa said, "Egypt always defends Egyptians' rights everywhere, and we do not impose Egyptians on any country. "The assisting role, whether as a teacher in raising generations or as an expert, serves the society in which an Egyptian works. But there are actions that harm Egyptians working abroad and it is time to stop those actions."

Concerning the meeting of the 8th session of the Organization for the Islamic Conference in Tehran, Iran he said, "It is of a special importance because it is being held under very important circumstances for the Islamic world." Moussa stated that Arabs must confront the dangerous actions of fanatics.

Foreign ministers from the OIC countries, including Moussa, are arriving in Iran today for a two day session that will start tomorrow, preceeding the Islamic Summit, which is scheduled to run December 9-11.

Concerning separate meetings US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will hold today and tomorrow with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat respectively, Moussa said, "As sponsor for peace process, the US is expected to handle the current crisis."
