Palestinian female detainee to be released in one month
Palestine, Politics, 12/3/1997
Itaf Elayan, the Palestinian girl who has been held under administrative detention for 43 days, is expected to be released at the end of a three month term, Israeli military sources said Wednesday.
The sources told Israel radio that Elayan, allegedly a member of the Islamic Jihad organization, will have to complete her 3-month administrative detention before she is released.
Shortly after her arrest, Elayan went on a hunger strike for 38 days and demonstrations broke out in a number of Palestinian towns in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in solidarity with her. She reportedly ceased her hunger strike only two days ago.
