Victims of occupation need psychiatric treatment
Palestine-Israel, Medicine, 12/3/1997

"The Palestinian society needs not only medical aid but also psychiatric treatment where thousands of Palestinians are suffering from occupation repercussions over 30 years of Israeli military rule," said Dr. Munther Al Sharif, director general of the PNA ministry of health in a meeting with a visiting French medical delegation.

Al Sharif called for a joint effort between Palestine and the non-governmental organizations operating in Palestine to set up a comprehensive plan to treat Palestinians who are badly in need of physiological treatment.

According to Palestinian sources, not only prisoners were subjected to physiological torture in Israeli jails but also children of shattered families and youths who have taken to the streets over the years of the Israeli military occupation were vulnerable to mental shocks that have left many of them with traumatic symptoms.
