Middle East newspaper case about to end
Egypt, Local, 12/3/1997
The dispute between the two sons of the Egyptian President, Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, and the Saudi Company for Marketing and Research is approaching its end.
Gamal Mubarak met Gamal Ismail, the Editor-in-chief of the Al Gadida Magazine which is published by the Saudi Company. The meeting was attended by a former official in the magazine Fawzia Salama, the journalists and workers of the magazine.
The Saudi company had decided to close its offices in Cairo after the Abdeen Court of Misdemeanors gave its verdict in the libel suit filed by the two sons of Mubarak against the Saudi publishers Mohamed and his brother Hesahm Aly Hafez and the editor-in-chief of the magazine together with other journalists employed by the magazine.
Gamal Mubarak explained the circumstances of the crisis and the efforts to solve it. He clarified that he and his brother are trying to reopen the company's offices in Cairo so that all the Egyptian workers and journalists could go back to their work.
