France welcomes Libyan cooperation in the UTA plane explosion
Libya, Politics, 12/2/1997
ArabicNews.com has received information that the French Foreign Ministry welcomes the cooperation between the French and Libyan investigators in the case of the French UTA plane explosion over the desert of Niger in 1989.
Sources said that Libya's continuation to provide information in the trial of the 6 Libyan suspects, which will be held in absentia, and Libya's readiness to pay compensation for the victims' families will boost relations between the two countries.
Libyan Ambassador Abdel Atty Al Obaidy had assisted the French Judge Jean Lebrogier, who is responsible for investigating the terrorism file of the Uta plane, during the latter's visit to Libya last year.
Sources added that the French diplomatic circles do not approve of the blockade imposed on the Libyan regime and the Libyan leader, Moammar Gadaffi, because the alternative is the Islamic groups, an option that is not desired by France.
