The Iraqi minister of justice calls for enhancing Arab solidarity
Iraq, Politics, 12/2/1997

Shabib El-Maleky, the Iraqi minister of justice, urged the Arab states to enhance their effective solidarity and to renew cooperation to enable the Arabs to face challenges with a collective will as a solid base from which to protect the Arab nation's interests and strengthen its stability and security.

In his statement today, the Iraqi minister of justice praised the stance the Arab League took, which was represented in the previous statement of the general trusteeship, in which it condemned all forms of interference in Iraqi interior affairs, showed that it cared about its territorial integrity, confirmed the necessity of lifting the sanctions, and refused threats of military aggression.

The Iraqi minister also praised the "just and honest voices" that responded to the joint national interest and expressed how that they cared for the Iraqis by demanding the lifting of "the siege" imposed on Iraq, by condeming all forms of military threats against Iraq, and by helping solve the crisis related to the UN inspection committee through discussions and diplomatic consultations.

He stated, "Despite of all this, the U.S.A. is still stirring problems in order to justify new military attacks against Iraq -- that is still suffering from the traces of the previous aggression on its territories and the death of more than a million and quarter individuals, among which are women, elderly and children, made worse by the siege imposed on it."
