Refugees' commissariat implements program to settle Sudanese families
Sudan-Egypt, International, 12/2/1997
The refugees' commissariat affiliated to the United Nations is arranging a broad program to settle Sudanese families currently living in Cairo, in Canada, Australia, and a number of the European countries.
Sudanese sources in Cairo said, "During the last period there are about 500 families left Cairo according to this program".
Mohammed Bokeri, the chairmen of the United Nations regional bureau in Cairo, said the repatriation program had begun a long time ago, indicating that the program includes such cases as assembling families together for health and security reasons.
He also added, "We wished the refugees would have been repatriated home, yet when this attempt failed, it became difficult for them to remain in Cairo. So we are trying hard through our communication with the European countries embassies and the United Nations to help them settling in those countries according to the repatriation program."
Bokeri said, "The program is still in the beginning," expressing his hope that it would be continued.
