Amr Moussa: Terrorism is not acceptable
Egypt, Politics, 12/2/1997

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa stated that terrorism against individuals and communities cannot be accepted under any circumstances. He stressed the idea that terrorism does not represent any policy and that it is a great burden on the people.

Answering questions from the press, Moussa clarified that it is not possible to hold negotiations with terrorists and that no excuses should be given to the terrorists under any pretext. Egyptian society cannot accept the murder of innocent people who have nothing to do with what the terrorists believe, he said.

He said that it is natural to find the Foreign Ministry preoccupied with this issue as everybody is encountering this vicious phenomenon. Egypt as a people and a government is one entity. He called on the international cooperation to combat terrorism, especially in those foreign countries where there are organizations that support terrorist activities. Every country should do its best in this concern, he said.

Regarding the contacts with the British government over its hosting of some terrorists, Moussa said that these contacts will continue in order to protect Egyptian society as well as the other societies.

Meanwhile Moussa stated that there has been some progress in regard to the negotiations between the Somali factions in Cairo and that they reached an agreement over some of the important points.
